Khan also has a sister whose name is Shehnaz and who is fondly called Lalrukh. Khan did his schooling from St. Columba School in Delhi, where he was proficient in the sports field, academic life, and theatrical arts. On the school side, he was awarded the "Sword of Honor", which was awarded to the most capable and promising student and player each year. After this, he obtained an economics degree from Hansraj College and a master's degree in Mass Communication from Jamia Millia Islamia University. Khan came to Mumbai from Delhi in 1919 after the death of his parents. In 1919, he was married to Gauri Khan in Hindu customs.
